Got an idea for a blog? That’s great – now all you have to do is take action to turn your idea into reality.
Taking action will give you fresh inspiration, more motivation, and a reason to keep going as you invest more time in your blogging enterprise. But what happens if you don’t take action?
Well, the chances are the exhilarating effects you initially felt after coming up with a new idea will gradually fade. You will then start to question if your idea is such a good one after all.
You see, ideas don’t last long. They’re thoughts, and thoughts simply remain intangible, unless you act upon them.
If you have already taken action – well done! If you haven’t…what’s holding you back?
Are You Aiming for Perfection?
If, when you imagine your new blog, you’ve set standards for yourself that have you aiming for perfection, then there is no wonder you haven’t started yet. Sure, you want the best blog ever (who doesn’t?). But when you’re striving for perfection, you’ll never be satisfied. Let’s take a look at how this pans out…
Maybe you want impeccable web design…you’ve been poring over some of the hottest looking websites ever created, you want yours to be of equal standing and you won’t settle for anything less. You think you are being “selective” and “discerning”. However, the reality is that the pursuit of perfection (does this even really exist?) is preventing you from starting your blog!
Are You Worried About Making Mistakes?
Does the thought of incorrectly uploading an image, or perhaps setting up a hyperlink that links to the wrong page, prevent you from starting your blog? If so, then perhaps you need to think differently, or you may never actually get started.
Here are a couple of points to help you:
1 – All you can do is your best and that’s available to you right now, so go on and have a go – what’s the worst that can happen?
2 – If you didn’t make any mistakes you would never learn.
Are You Concerned About Your Writing Skills?
I think the question that needs to be asked here is – Can you really make mistakes when it comes to sharing your ideas in your blog?
Sure, there are different approaches, and if you find that your approach to communicating online isn’t working, then simply switch tactics …lesson learned, no harm done.
I don’t believe you can make mistakes when you express your thoughts in your blog …except grammar of course! Even so, grammatical mistakes can be easily rectified after you’ve hit the publish button. Worrying about making grammatical mistakes is like worrying that you’ll swerve a tiny bit while driving…correct it and move on.
Secondly, worrying can make you freeze and prevent you from taking action. The more you worry, the less likely you are to start your blog.
Just Start Writing
Writing is like body building. The more curls you do at the gym, the stronger you get. Likewise, the more you write, the better your writing becomes. Start small and allow your writing to grow naturally.
Don’t try to convey the equivalent of the meaning of life in your first post. This would of course be biting off more than you can chew.
What is Holding You Back?
I have only covered a few points of what may be holding you back from starting your blog. However, the point I am trying to get across is – no matter what is stopping you from taking action, take a step back and ask yourself if your worry or concern is justification enough for you not to progress with your blog.
When you do this, the chances are you will realise that your concerns and worries are nothing to get hung up on at all.
Don’t dip your toe in the water, dive right in and make a splash!
Good luck
